Drawing people I've never met...

Well, I very recently drew a picture of Mia Matsumiya, a member of the experimental metal band Kayo Dot, and model for David Mack's Kabuki graphic novel series. I drew the picture from a photo I saw on her Facebook page! This is the photo:

I decided to do this because I'd recently been to a Dr. Sketchy's and realised that I cannot draw, so I need some uber-serious practice! This is the end result:

I know it's not the best drawing I've ever done, but considering I haven't drawn properly in a while I think I did okay! Also, I was wondering whether or not to put it up on Facebook, so I asked Mia herself, (the wonders of technology) and she wanted to see it! So the next day, i put it up, waiting to hear screams from halfway around the world as people's eyes started to melt from looking at it, but what I got surprised me to no end! She said that she loved it! So much so, in fact, that she had set it as her desktop wallpaper! Well, as you can imagine, this made my day! Plus, later on I saw a DeLorean DMC-12 at a hand car wash near my house, but I can't put those photos on my computer yet, so you'll have to wait to see them!

Pen and paint....

As a child at school, you'd expect that I'd have played with paints or even been shown how much water to mix with my paint in art class. This is a gross over-expectation. I have never touched a paint set in my ENTIRE life, up until very recently that is, when Lani let me experiment with her paints one day while I was hanging out with her while she was at uni!

This, ladies and gentlemen, is the result:

If you've looked at this blog before, then you'll know that this picture is from my first post - it's a photocopy of the drawing, which I then (very expertly, of course) painted on! I'd say it's pretty good, considering it's the first time I've ever painted!

Also, It might look like I have put a cheesy effect over the picture - I have not, it's just the fact that the water from the watercolour paint made the paper wet, and it dried in a kind of wavy looking way!

Next comes my favourite drawing using my nice Faber-Castell PITT artist pens! It's a drawing of Aspen Matthews from the creator owned series Fathom, by Michael Turner. It's not a full drawing, just eyes nose and mouth, but what I like about this drawing is the amount of detail I've paid to these.
Here, have a look:

I think I got the perspective right with the eyes too! It's very difficult to get the perspective right a lot of the time, as most of my drawings will show, but this time, I've drawn a prime example of how to do it right (for once)!

Lani, immortalised in pencil...

This is one of my first 'real life' drawings, as in - not from a comic book! Haha!
It's of my girlfriend, Lani, drawn on a moonlit night, whilst she drew someone else in secret!

It doesn't look exactly like her, but I think it's pretty good!

I've done a few more since, and of other people too.
I'll show you another time though!
